1. Introduction

The Funder Data Platform is intended to function as a link between research funders and researchers, studying grants, funding, careers, equity and other key issues concerning research funding. We do this by providing a secure platform, where funders can make their data available, with fine-grained control of who is able to read which data.

In this guide, we explain the different elements of the Funder Data Platform and how they work together, in order to create an environment that supports collaboration between diverse parties.

For background knowledge on how the system works, and what it can be used for, we recommend chapters 2-3. For more concrete guides on how to use particular parts of the system, we refer to chapters 4-6.

Future plans

The Funder Data Platform is not a static entity, and we want to develop the Platform to meet the requirements and plans of our community - while maintaining a strong focus on flexibility and security. This is why we would love to hear feedback from you.

We are currently considering the following changes/additions to the Funder Data Platform:

  • Open data explorer - the current system is relatively closed, in that only RoRI members are able to access the system and any data sets. However we already built in some of the logic to offer an option in the future that could make data publicly available and discoverable.
  • Consolidated funding data - as our list of research funder partners grows, we hope to develop a common data model for a consolidated table that everyone can feed into. We are not going to remove our flexible formats, but would hope to offer the consolidated data as an additional service.
